Sultan of Sokoto declares Wednesday Eid-el-fitr day in Nigeria

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Monday night declared Wednesday, July 6, as Eid-el-fitr day, a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said.

The report quoted the Sultan, who doubles as the spiritual head of Nigerian Muslims, as saying that the Shawwal moon has not been sighted in Nigeria.

The Sultan had at the weekend advised Nigerian Muslims to start watching out for the new moon.

The Federal Government has declared today and tomorrow public holidays for the Eid-el-fitr
