Unimed, Nigeria’s first University of Medical Sciences inaugurated, first set matriculates

Nigeria’s first university of medical sciences has been inaugurated in Ondo State. The university with the acronym UNIMED was today inaugurated by the governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

At the event which was also the first matriculation for the university new intakes, Governor Mimiko promised to leave no stone unturned to ensure that the state remains a place of pride in all ramifications.

“Let me assure you all that the Government of Ondo State will continue to provide enabling social and policy environment for the hitch-free activities of this university,” Mimiko said.

He urged the students to be dutiful and give the required diligence to excel in their chosen careers.

“I therefore charge you to give your utmost and ensure the realisation of our set objectives,” the governor said.

Mimiko, who is also the PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, expressed confidence in the faculty and the University’s Governing Council to take the institution to enviable heights.

“It is our hope and belief that UNIMED will provide sound scientific, technological and professional training,” he said.

On his part, UNIMED Vice Chancellor, Prof Friday Okonofua, said the university admitted 234 students into various courses in the university. (News Express)
