The United States ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle has given the reason why Nigeria has been finding it difficult to procure arms from the United States to combat the extremist Boko Haram sect that have been wreaking havoc in some parts of Nigeria.
The ambassador, Mr. Entwistle stated that the United States is trying to take into consideration the human right record of the Nigerian Military especially in the northern part of Nigeria. According to Premium Times newspaper, the U.S has not absolutely shut her door against Nigeria when it comes to supplying of arms.
“Some of the newest vessels in the Nigeria navy came from the United States. So the idea that the United States does not share equipment with Nigeria across the board is just not true,” the ambassador stated.
Mr. Entwistle admonished the Nigerian government not to limit her efforts to seeking arms to fight the dreaded sect, she should also make efforts to improve upon the welfare of the soldiers who risk their lives to fight the Boko Haram sect.
