UNAn armored jeep in the motorcade for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power struck and killed a 7-year-old boy Monday morning during a visit to Cameroon.

The deadly incident occurred near Moloko, where Power and journalists headed to meet with refugees escaping the brutal reign of Boko Haram militants across the region. Power expressed “great sorrow” at the child’s death and returned to the bloody scene hours later to meet with the boy’s parents. According to reports, the motorcade was traveling as fast as 60 mph along the two-lane highway when the boy darted into the street, leaving little time for the Cameroonian driver to react. (AP, TBW)
