Senator representing Bayelsa East District in Nigeria’s National Assembly, Mr. Ben Murray-Bruce has revealed how he was resisted by the other Senators when he suggested lower wages.

In his tweets on Monday, Murray-Bruce said he told the other senators that if Nigerian legislators earn higher than European legislators, then Nigerian workers should be paid higher wages than European workers.

The Senator stated: “From the first day I got to the Senate, I advocated for lower wages and allowances for public officials and a higher minimum wage for the Nigerian worker. I was resisted and made the personal decision to share my allowances with widows in my constituency.

“If we must pay our legislators higher than they pay European legislators, then, we must pay our workers higher than they pay European workers.‎”

  1. Double talk Mr Bruce. You took money you did not work for and you claim to share it with widows ? You did not even think it wise to use the institutionalized ‘ill-gotten-wages’ to create job opportunities for youths in Bayelsa state who are now actively engaged in kidnappings, rape, murder and all sorts of crimes for lack of employment opportunities. You need do more than what you said.
