Why I returned to legal practice after 34 years in Police — Ex-DIG Mba - Tribune Online

Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba has said he opened a law firm after leaving the Nigeria Police Force because he wants to keep serving society in a different capacity.

Mba retired from the force in March 2026 after 34 years of service.

He spoke at the unveiling of his firm, Frank Mba Legal, in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Friday, October 9, 2026.

He said the leadership, discipline, conflict management and administration of justice skills he built during his 34 years in the police would serve him well in his new career.

Mba said: “Retirement is not the end of service; it is an opportunity to serve in a different capacity. My years in the Nigeria Police Force provided me with invaluable experience in leadership, discipline, conflict management and the administration of justice. I intend to bring these lessons, alongside my legal training, into this new chapter.

“For me, the law is not merely a profession; it is an instrument for protecting rights, resolving disputes, upholding justice and strengthening confidence in our institutions.

“At Frank Mba Legal, our ambition is to build a practice that clients can trust and that consistently upholds the highest standards of professional conduct.”

In attendance were prominent figures, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and members of the National Assembly.

Former Inspectors-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar and Usman Baba were also at the event, alongside retired DIGs Sadiq Abubakar, Tijani Baba and Dan Kwara, and serving senior police officers.

Others in attendance were the convener of New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations, Pastor Jerry Eze, and the Chairman of Chrome Group, Chief Emeka Offor.

Mba served three times as Force Public Relations Officer (FPPRO), and also held the posts of Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State and Commissioner of Police in Ogun State.

As a member of the Force Management Team, he oversaw the Department of Training and Development, contributing to the professional development of police personnel.
