The United State Secretary of State, John Kerry, has commended President Buhari for his anti-corruption drive. Speaking at the ongoing World Economic Forum holding in Davos, Switzerland, Kerry spoke on corruption and how it threatens global stability, growth and future. He drew example from Nigeria, its fight against Boko Haram and how findings from the arms deal investigations showed that corruption stalled the fight against terrorism.

“When Nigeria’s President, Buhari, took office last spring, he inherited a military that was under-paid, underfed and unable to protect the Nigerian people from Boko Haram. One reason is that much of the military budget was finding its way into the pockets of the generals. And just this week, we saw reports that more than 50 people in Nigeria, including former government officials, stole nine billion dollars from the treasury,” he told the delegation.

  1. Hello Prof. I really like your assessment. I can also understand your frustration which is the same frustration every well-meaning Nigerian has. Corruption no doubt has destroyed our country. Even the perpetrators will agree with me in this point.
In any case I have learnt judging from the event of the past years always to be cautious about praises coming from American Government. Do not forget the then Donald Rumsfeld that in the 80s showered praises on Saddam Hussein as a role model in the middle east even as Saddam was at that same time killing his People with chemical weapons which definitely was supplied to him from elsewhere, only to realize this in in 2003 when Saddam suddenly became to the same Rumsfeld a Tyrant.
Having said that, Praises from anywhere is welcomed but Buhari will not only be praised but even immortalized by Nigerians and the rest of the international community if he brings corruption to an end in Nigeria, by bringing anybody concerned including himself to Justice. In so doing nobody has to be dehumanized even his core enemies. I do not think that is asking for too much.
John Kerry’s speech is in any case very welcomed in view of the fact that they finally realized that the damage coursed by corruption and bad governance is global. Maybe this will be the beginning of change of stands of the western world where individual countries were left to find solution to corruption which was basically seen as a local problem.
I sincerely hope that this is an eye opener to the call for an international solution to looting and corruption through the establishment of a United Nations High commission on Corruption.

  2. Great speech by the US Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry. The entire world needs to know our story and how unpatriotic, selfish and criminal-minded individuals looted and emptied the treasure of their fellow citizens. After all, the amount of money siphoned out of our country to America, Britain, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Ghana, South Africa, and other parts of the world by uncaring Nigerian looters is sufficient to build infrastructure better than the ones where they deposited their loots.

This is why any one who loves Nigeria will continue to support President Muhammadu Buhari in hunting down former corrupt public or private officials including local/state chairmen, governors, senators, ministers, House of Rep members, bank CEO’s, and Ambassadors in order to recover our stolen money. The international communities should also help us in this endeavor.

President Buhari is a very smart man – his various trips to many nations to inquire of Nigerians who looted Nigerian blind and hid their loots in foreign countries are now paying off. There should be no place to hide for these selfish and uncaring bandits.

With attitude adjustment and metal deprogramming of Nigerian citizenry, It shall soon be well with Nigerians again and we can all say “Bye Bye to Looting, Bye Bye to Corruption, and Bye Bye to Boko Haram”.
