A former National President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), has counseled Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, not to allow the opposition to distract him from leading the state to a greater height. Olanipekun gave the advice when he visited the governor in his office in Ado-Ekiti, a statement by Fayose’s media aide, Idowu Adelusi, said.
The statement added that the former NBA president said Fayose’s victory in the last June governorship election was well deserved. Olanipekun was quoted to have said, “You are an achiever going by your performance during your first term in office. Your victory in the June 21 governorship election is well deserved. You laid the foundation for the state during your first term. “I am sure you are going to do more this time around. Don’t allow the opposition to distract you.“
The people of the state have not made a mistake by voting for you, as they made the right choice. “Face the implementation of the programmes you have lined up for execution as Ekiti people will not judge you by how you have replied the opposition but by what you do to improve their living standard.”
The lawyer said that though the Fayose administration inherited some challenges but that he was optimistic that the challenges would be surmounted. He promised to support the government and urged the people of the state to do same.
In his response, Fayose appreciated the ex-NBA boss for the visit, saying he had known and seen Olanipekun as a great and respected son of Ekiti. “You have distinguished yourself in your calling and I respect you as a great Ekiti son and leader.
I need the support of people like you and all Ekiti sons and daughters. I promise not to allow the ranting of the opposition to distract me and I will deliver on my electoral promises,” the governor said.
