Former Guatemalan president, Otto Perez Molina sent to prison hours after his resignation

64-year-old Otto Perez Molina was sent to jail hours after tendering his resignation as president of Guatemala for his role in a multimillion-dollar customs fraud case. His vice president, Alejandro Maldonado, was sworn in as president on Thursday afternoon, after Congress voted to accept Molina’s resignation. He is the first president in Guatemalan history to resign over a corruption scandal.
