Security presence increased around Ekiti Judges

sulaiman-abba-policeFeelers from Ekiti indicate that the headship of the Nigerian Police has ordered the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police to increase security presence around the Judges in the state. More police presence becomes imminent as the cases filed against the election of Mr. Ayodele Fayose as governor of the state are scheduled to reopen any time from now.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) had in an emergency meeting held last week in Abuja called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to protect the Nigerian Judiciary especially that of Ekiti State following alleged attacks on some of the Judges in the state in the last two weeks. The NJC was said to have made the demand by formally writing a letter to the IGP. There are indications that the request has been granted by the Nigerian Police.

The National Judicial Council is scheduled to meet again on October 13 and 14 to reassess development in the State Judiciary. It is also likely that the council would look into the crisis rocking the Ekiti State Judiciary especially the petitions filed and pending before the council. As things are, any Judge of the state that grants any ex-parte order to stop the swearing in of the governor elect might be putting his career on the line.
