Professor Ben Nwabueze, renowned constitutional lawyer and elder statesman on Wednesday in Enugu expressed concern over an alleged ongoing plot to Islamise Nigeria.

Nwabueze said the plan to Islamise the nation “is real and not something being conjured up.”

The professor of law spoke with journalists at the sidelines of a meeting of Igbo leaders of thought in Enugu.

Nwabueze explained that the meeting was important to them because they had not met for more than a year and they had in the agenda such critical issues as Islamisation agenda and its impact on the unity of the country.

“Islamisation agenda is real. It is not something that somebody has just conjured up and it is there. And it is being implemented gradually.

Look at the security agencies. Every aspect of security, Islamists are in control in its entirety.

“They are methodical the way they are going about its implementation. Look at Fulani herdsmen menace.  It is part of it.”

Professor Nwabueze said Igbo leaders of thought have listed a number of positions on the Islamisation issue, which would be embodied in their communiqué from the meeting.

On the Fulani herdsmen menace, he called for establishment of grazing reserves, while urging the South-East governors to meet and say that they do not want this anymore and that the herdsmen should go somewhere else. (Independent)
